Carlson: Blame Tombstone Violence on Liberal Gun Control Laws

Tombstone, Ariz. Territory, 1881—The epidemic of gun violence in Tombstone, including the recent unfortunate incident at the O.K. Corral, was the logical outcome of the city’s strict gun control laws, said Historical Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“To everyone but my left-wing friends, this simply could not be more obvious,” said Carlson in his evening rant outside the Flagstaff Gentleman’s Club. “Tombstone has the most restrictive gun control laws in the West, and yet the gun violence there is off the charts. Clearly, this town needs gun control like Ulysses Grant needs another shot of Kentucky Bourbon.”

The push for stricter gun control laws has been led by Marshal Virgil Earp and his brother, Special Policeman Wyatt Earp, both “notorious left-wing activists,” said Carlson. With liberal backing, the Earps recently pushed through Ordinance No. 9, the infamous gun control law that forces all people entering Tombstone to obtain permits to carry guns within the city limits.

Gun control activists claim the law was needed to stop the city’s unusually high level of gun violence. Carson sees it otherwise.

“If guns are outlawed,” he said, “only outlaws will have guns, as the incident at the O.K. Corral makes clear. Only in this case, the outlaws wore badges.”

In the recent incident, the Earps and gun control activist Doc Holiday confronted four men exercising their Second Amendment rights in an alley behind the O.K. Corral. It’s unclear exactly what happened next but within 30 seconds, three of the gun rights activists were shot dead and their leader, Ike Stanton, chairman of the local National Rifle Association chapter, had fled for his life.

“The fact that some of these men were accused of crimes is immaterial,” said Carlson. “Their real crime, in the eyes of the Earps and the Gun Control lobby, was that they believed in the Second Amendment.”

The “absolute worst” part of the Tombstone story, says Carlson, is that the “history of the incident is already being rewritten by liberals. Academics and journalists are working overtime to frame this episode and Tombstone’s alleged ‘drop’ in violent crime as some kind of success for curbing gun rights.”

“I can see it now,” said Carlson, “a vast mythology is being worked up that will show how gun controlling lefties shut down rugged, individualist gunslingers — as if that has anything to do with how the West will be won.”
